THE CAPTAIN OF ALL PLEASURES AND THE PRICE OF PLEASURE REVIEW

I love Kresley Cole books. Her Immortal after Dark series are my favorite paranormal romance books and I eagerly await each new story. I decided to read her older historical romances and these two books are her first published novels. The Captain Of All Pleasures was her debut novel written in 2003. If you are a fan of this talented writers paranormal’s you will enjoy her historical’s as well.

The Captain Of All Pleasures is about Captain Derek Sutherland. He is the Earl of Stanhope and the middle son of the Sutherland family. Derek is a drunk and wastrel. He cares for little but his ship and crew. Nicole Lassiter is. the daughter of his biggest shipping rival, American Jason Lassiter. Derek first meets Nicole in a tavern and mistakenly thinks she is a prostitute.

Nicole Lassiter has been raised on her father’s clipper ship and is an excellent sailor and navigator. Derek and Nicole compete against each other in a high-stakes competition: the Great Circle race from England to Australia. The sailing subplot is very interesting and informative about conditions on board ships during the 1850’s.

The romance between Nicole and Derek is full of misunderstandings, secrets and passion. I really enjoyed both these characters. Derek is a flawed hero that must overcome years of alcohol abuse, disappointment and mistrust. Nicole is fiery and tough and stands up to the Earl of Stanhope’s moody temper. Kresley Cole always writes interesting characters and her plots always have little twists and unexpected turns.

The Price of Pleasure is the story of Derek’s younger brother Grant. Captain Grant Sutherland is an upstanding man of integrity and duty. Grant is rigid and follows all the rules until he meets the wild child, Tori. Victoria Dearborn was shipwrecked on an island in the South Pacific at the age of thirteen and has survived by her wits and strength. She loves her freedom and is spontaneous and wild. Their love story is passionate and this novel is full of sexual tension.

I loved both these books and it was wonderful discovering some older Kresley Cole books. She just gets better and better as an author but these historicals stand the test of time and are impressive debut novels. I recommend them to everyone who likes a fun summer sexy read!!

I give both books Four STARS!!! Happy Reading! Product Details
