NBTM: REVIEW & GIVEAWAY- BOREALIS DARK SHADOW BY STEPHANIE BURKHART

BOREALIS
DARK SHADOW
BY
STEPHANIE BURKHART

BLURB:

The TPP have developed a new destructive weapon and intend to test it on the Borealis Space Station. Helios Talon, a Rebellion freedom fighter from Pith, is dispatched to the station to discover the extent of the weapon's development and stop it if necessary. He's also given a personal mission from his sister, Persephone: keep Vivian Melendez, the owner of Korn, safe from an unknown assassin.

Helios and his cousin, Athena, arrive on the Borealis and discover the TPP are ready to test the weapon. He's got to act fast, but when Helios meets Vivian, distractions complicate his plan. Can he overcome his challenges and save not only the feisty Vivian, but the station, too?

REVIEW:

Borealis Dark Shadow
I enjoyed this story even though it was pretty short. It was a fast paced tale full of pretty enjoyable characters. I thought the heroine Viviane was spunky, likeable, and confident in herself. She was passionate about the things she cared about, namely her bar, cat, chocolate, and Helio the hero.

Helio tries to get Vivian's bar, but she's not giving it up without a fight. Vivian is attracted to Helio from the moment she meets him, but knows she can't get distracted. When they find out the station is in trouble, they put aside their differences and try to save the station.

Helio is a likeable hero. He's loyal, brave, but not without flaws . His sister made him promise to protect Vivian and that's a promise he intends to keep.

The story was well written as a whole, and even though I was a little confused I could follow the story pretty well.

I'm definitely going to pick up the earlier books in the series. I'm curious about how everything started.

Excerpt Three:

The buzzer sounded again. She frowned, not in the mood to deal with Aachen's taunts. Maybe she should just cuss at him a little and threaten to report him to Raines for some minor infraction. That would make him twitch. Sally turned toward the door, but didn't narrow her eyes. Maybe it wasn't Aachen. Vivian put her glass down on the table next to her and approached. She glanced out the peephole. Helios. What did he want? Dare she let him in? Vivian bit her lower lip. Mixed feelings surged through her. Sally meowed, offering encouragement. Against Vivian's better judgment, she opened the door. What did she have to lose? It may be late, but she wouldn't mind hearing what he had to say.

Helios flashed her a wide, heart-stopping grin. "Hello."

"You can't have Korn." Vivian could just kick herself. She couldn't believe those were the first words out of her mouth.

His smile fell. "May I come in?"

She motioned for him to enter. Oh, he even smelled nice -- spicy. Rich. Sensual. She swallowed and closed the door.

"I see you have a spine cat."

"Meet Sally." Vivian crossed her arms, not sure what to think.

He casually approached Sally and offered his hand. She sniffed his  wrist and purred.

"I think she likes you," Vivian said.

Helios ran his hand over the cat's prickles. "Athena's mother has a spine cat."

"Your cousin?"

"Yes."

"Where is she?"

"Exploring."

"I bet."

"It's the truth." He held up a black clutch. "Peace offering?"

Vivian narrowed her eyes, suspicious. The fine craftsmanship of the purse attracted Vivian. She took it, looked it over, and smiled. This must have cost him a lot of credits.

"Thank you -- I think." She paused. "Why are you here? Do you really want to take Korn from me?"

Her voice shook, betraying her apprehension. He couldn't have it. Period.

Helios directed his attention toward Vivian now, his deep brown eyes compelling -- magnetic. "I was sent here to protect you."

Vivian snorted. "From who?"

"The TPP. Persephone sent me."

  2. Thank you so much for having me here today. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. Sally the spine cat was one of my favorite characters in "Dark Shadow." Question for you: Do you think you could live on a space station? What job would you want? Why or why not?

Spring is in the air and with that in mind, I'd love to hear how spring is out your way. Is there still snow on the ground? Is it warming up? Flowers? Tree buds. Drop a line and share and don't forget to leave your email.
