Hello My Lovelies,
Welcome to my stop on the Owlet: Society Of Feathers Book 1 Blog Tour. I'm excited to be a part of this tour, and super excited to have Emma Michaels here with me today!
Somewhere between falling and flying… there is a girl.
Iris has a secret. She lost her memory eight years ago and never told a living soul. After an asthma attack one night she finds out that her dreams of a strange house on a snowy island may be a memory resurfacing but the more she learns about the past the more she realizes the life she has been living is a lie. As the façade her father has built starts to crumble around her she will have to decide which means more to her; the truth or her life.

“I love to fly.” Diana said, smiling at Iris after they had
climbed into the private plane. “It is the best feeling in the
world.”
“Then why didn’t you want to go?” Iris asked her blatantly. She still couldn’t get Diana’s strange words out of her mind from the night before. Diana had always been so kind but it felt like she hadn’t wanted to be with her, and Iris couldn’t help but feel rejected.
“What do you mean?” Diana asked as if she was completely oblivious to the very recent past.
“I heard what you said last night,” Iris replied, her voice remained strong and her questions remained blatant. She normally wouldn’t let her emotions take over out of fear of an asthma attack, but she didn’t want to hold back. After all, it was that blatant streak—that brutal honesty—that had finally brought the walls between her and her father tumbling down. This was her first trip away from home and her first time without her father. Iris wanted to relish what small pieces of freedom she was going to have without him, even if she would miss him terribly.

The Original Fight Scene
The original fight scene from Owlet is far different
than the final version. In the first draft, the fight scene was a scene where
all hell breaks loose. It was a moment of sacrifice, pain and the feeling of
loss. It tested the main character’s resolve when being faced with what she
fears is a final judgment. She knows that all of them won’t walk away and there
is nothing that can be done about it.
The final evolution of this scene has become something very
difficult. It is now far more realistic, and one that challenges Iris to her
very core. Readers will be able to identify with her and understand because it
is a real situation set in a very real world. That is why I love Iris so much –
she is real. She is as real as a person as you and I are to each other.
The original fight scene was a very action-oriented event.
But I am very pleased to see how Owlet has evolved into something filled
with depth, passion and truth. For Iris’ journey isn’t just a coming of age
story, it is a never-ending quest for the truth that has been denied her for
her whole life. This is what the fight scene is about, and it is one that she
embraces head-on as a strong, very real person.
About The Author
Emma Michaels is the author of the ‘A
Sense of Truth’ and ‘Society of Feathers’ series. Her goal with
her latest YA novel 'Owlet' is to give others what she did not
have growing up; a strong female protagonist with asthma. While
her previous aspiration was to be a lady knight she realized
that not being able to run more than a few feet might become a
hindrance so turned to writing instead. Her day jobs include
being a cover artist, marketing consultant and silk screen
designer.
As the founder of The Writers Voice blog (http://OurBooksOurVoice. Blogspot.com)
she loves to connect authors and readers. As a book blogger
turned author, she was born and raised in Los Angeles,
California, until she moved at eighteen to Washington State.
Suddenly, the world was a new place filled with tall green trees
that reached further for the sky with every moment, making her
want to do the same. Ever since, she has tried to make her life
something new and different from what it was before, pursuing
her future career, setting high goals and reaching for them.
With the support of her fiancé, Chihuahua, and her amazing blog
followers and fellow bloggers, she wants to prove to the world
that anything is possible and help inspire fellow literary
lovers to reach for their dreams.
