BLURB:
Everything Emma Thompson owns fits in a suitcase she moves from one roach infested motel to another. She and Jake, her five year old son who can see the future, are running from the men intent on taking him. Emma will do anything to protect him even when it means accepting the help of a stranger named Will. Jake insists she needs Will, but Emma's never needed help before. And even though she's learned to trust her son, it doesn't mean she trusts Will.
Mercenary Will Davenport lives in the moment. Hauling Emma to South Dakota should have been an easy job, but his employer neglected to tell him about Emma's freaky son and the gunmen hot on her trail. Instinct tells him this job is trouble, but nothing can prepare him for Jake's proclamation that Will is The Chosen One, who must protect Emma from the men hunting her power. A power she doesn't know she has.
Will protects Emma and Jake on a cross-country chase from the men pursuing them, while struggling with memories from his past, his apprehension of Jake, and his growing attraction to Emma. Will's overwhelming urge to protect Emma surprises him, especially since it has nothing to do with his paycheck and possibly everything to do with the tattoo Jake branded on his arm. Rich and powerful men are desperate to capture Emma, and Will must discover why before it's too late.
REVIEW:
This book was very well written, and I enjoyed it a lot. I did have a few issues, but not enough to make me put the book down. The story was fast paced, and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Emma, and her five year old son Jake have been on the run for the past three years. She has been running from people who want her son because of his special gifts. Jake can see the future, and has kept him and his mother one step ahead of the bad guys that want him for most of his life. Emma and Jake are just about to run again when Will enters their life.
Will shows up out of nowhere, and saves Emma and Jake. Will is a mercenary that has been hired to bring them in. When he first meets them he is determined to complete his mission, and turn them over to his bosses. After spending time protecting, and helping them, Will begins to develop feelings for Emma and Jake. He begins to have doubts about whether he will be able to turn them over.
Soon Will finds himself Marked as Emma's protector, he loves her and is incapable of harming her. He only wants to love and protect her, but that will be harder then either one of them could have imagined. When Emma is hurt and Will is forced to bring her in for help, she believes that he betrayed her. Worse they both find out that they are in the middle of a big conspiracy that will forever change their world.
This story was really fast paced, and had me hooked from the beginning. I was determined to find out what happened next. The author really did a good job with the action sequences, I felt my heart pounding right along with the characters. I was very disappointed when I got to the end of the story, and found out it ended with a cliffhanger. I wanted to scream! That's how bad I wanted this book to continue. I did download book two and three. I can't wait to dive in.
If you like action packed romance, and mystery you will love this book.

EXCERPT:
“Holy shit,” Will mumbled. Scratches and deep crevices dented the side of the truck, starting at the driver's door and angling to the back. Bullet holes riddled the body of the bed. "We're lucky we could open the door."
“Sorry.” Emma stood behind him taking in the damage.
Will ran a hand through his hair and winced. “Better the truck than us.”
“Let me see your head.”
Will turned to face her and winked. “I bet you’d like to see…”
“Shut up. I was talking about your forehead.” The light of the full moon illuminated the dried blood that ran down his cheek. “Let me look at it.” She moved closer to him and reached up to touch his cheek.
“Careful, Emma, I’ll think you’re trying to seduce me.”
“As if.” Her thumb brushed the hair off his forehead revealing a half-inch gash. “We need to clean this up. Do you have a first aid kit?”
His reached up and wrapped his fingers around her wrist. “Can’t you just kiss it and make it better?”
Two hours earlier his comments would have pissed her off, but her view of him shifted. He just risked his life to save her and Jake.
Emma laughed and pulled her hand away. “I don't think so. Do you know how many germs are in human saliva? I’m sure you have a first aid kit somewhere. A big boy like you carrying guns around should have Band-Aids for when things get a little too rough.”

4 stars...great review. Denise...The name of the place where you live, Lee's Summit, sounds nice. I may be biased since my name is Lee. Was the town named after a Lee--an individual or family?
